Kim Min-soo, a top official in the People Power Party, declared that simply chanting “Yoon Again” won’t secure victory in the upcoming June 3 local elections. This statement came in response to far-right YouTuber Jeon Han-gil’s demand for the party leader, Jang Dong-hyuk, to clarify his stance on the “Yoon Again” movement.
At a joint discussion forum hosted by conservative YouTube channels on the 9th, Kim addressed the question about “Yoon Again” by offering the party’s perspective.
He pointed out that while support had surged to 52% during the impeachment crisis, it’s now declining as supporters continue to rally behind the “Yoon Again” slogan. Kim cautioned, “If mere slogans could win elections, former President Yoon wouldn’t have faced impeachment. We need to think long-term rather than seeking quick fixes.”
Kim’s remarks suggest a strategic shift may be necessary to win local elections, including broadening the party’s appeal to moderate voters. He also seemed to be explaining the challenging political landscape to the party’s core supporters. Addressing claims of election fraud, Kim challenged, “Are you absolutely certain the election was rigged?”
He emphasized the need to persuade centrist voters, noting that a decade of alleging election fraud has narrowed rather than expanded their support base. “This approach has led to isolated clarity,” Kim stated. “To win over moderates, we must focus on improving our institutions.”
Regarding supporters of former party leader Han Dong-hoon, Kim struck a conciliatory tone: “Despite our differences with Han, we must remember that his numerous supporters are fellow citizens we’ll need to work with in the future.” He acknowledged Han’s political clout, adding, “There are few politicians in South Korea who can mobilize support like Han Dong-hoon. He’s undeniably a capable individual.”
