Regarding the so-called “accusation instigation controversy” surrounding Andong City in North Gyeongsang Province, a city council member and a city hall official held separate press conferences to state their positions. This controversy centers on whether public officials were involved in or encouraged accusations against specific individuals.
On February 10, Andong City Council member Kim Sae-rom and Andong City Communication Secretary Cho Byeong-tae each held press conferences to address recent allegations and outline their future responses.
During his press conference, Councilman Kim briefly recounted the circumstances of past accusations against him. According to Kim, in late 2023, he faced allegations of favoritism towards a specific company. The case concluded in May 2024 when police investigations resulted in a decision of no charges.
Kim stated that following a local media report in January of this year, suspicions of “public official involvement in instigating accusations” arose. He emphasized the need to verify the facts surrounding the entire accusation process. Kim asserted that investigative agencies should determine the substance of these allegations. He submitted a complaint to the Andong Police Station requesting clarification on public officials’ involvement and a review of procedural matters.
On the same day, Secretary Cho held a separate press conference to deny the related allegations.

Cho acknowledged that there had been personal requests related to past personnel matters, but he firmly rejected them in accordance with principles. He added that subsequently, the individual in question has claimed to be a whistleblower while continuing to make negative assertions about him and the city’s administration.

Furthermore, Cho expressed strong regret regarding some media reports criticizing him and Andong’s administration. He stated his intention to contest these claims through legal procedures.

Cho firmly declared that the allegations made against him are false. He noted that his position as a public official limits his ability to respond to these controversies. Consequently, he plans to resign from his public position this month and pursue legal action as a private citizen to clarify the facts.

The facts surrounding this matter are expected to be clarified through police investigations and judicial procedures in the coming months.
