Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed gratitude for President Lee Jae-myung’s congratulatory message on her victory in the House of Representatives election.
On February 9, Takaichi took to X (formerly Twitter) to convey her appreciation, stating, “I sincerely thank President Lee Jae-myung for his warm congratulations.” She emphasized, “Japan and South Korea are crucial neighboring countries that must work together as partners on various global challenges.” Takaichi added, “As we confirmed during President Lee’s visit to Nara Prefecture last month, we share a common understanding of the strategic importance of Japan-South Korea relations.”
The Prime Minister further remarked, “I hope that under President Lee’s leadership and mine, we can continue to develop Japan-South Korea relations in a forward-looking and stable manner. I look forward to visiting South Korea through our next round of ‘shuttle diplomacy.'”
Takaichi posted her message in both Japanese and Korean.
On the same day, President Lee congratulated Takaichi via his X account, saying, “I sincerely congratulate you on your election victory and wish for Japan’s continued prosperity under your leadership.”
Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party secured a landslide victory, winning 316 out of 465 seats. This surpasses the two-thirds majority required to propose constitutional amendments (310 seats) and marks the party’s most significant success since its founding in 1955.
