Bonghwa County in North Gyeongsang Province showcased its prized Bonghwa apples at a special direct sales market for sister cities in Seoul’s Gangdong District, just in time for the Lunar New Year festivities.
The county reported that from February 5th to 6th, they set up shop at the “Lunar New Year Sister City Specialty Product Market” held in the open courtyard of Gangdong District Office. There, they promoted and sold their delicious apples to eager metropolitan consumers.
This bustling market, organized by Gangdong District, brought together Bonghwa County and 22 other sister cities. In total, 39 farms displayed their regional specialties, creating a vibrant tapestry of local flavors.
Bonghwa apples stole the show with their unique charm. Grown at elevations over 400m, these semi-highland beauties boast incredibly firm flesh and a sweetness that’s off the charts. Visitors couldn’t resist stopping by for a taste, and those who bought some on the spot were thoroughly impressed by the apples’ superior quality.
A spokesperson for Bonghwa County enthused, “These holiday markets in Gangdong are golden opportunities to showcase our stellar apples. We’re committed to expanding our reach through creative promotions and direct sales events. It’s all about boosting our local farmers’ bottom line!”
The partnership between Bonghwa County and Seoul’s Gangdong District goes way back to 1996 when they became sister cities. Since then, they’ve fostered a thriving relationship, collaborating on everything from agriculture to culture, tourism, and sports.
