Lunar New Year Integrity Campaign: Hampyeong County’s Steps to Curb Corruption Among Public Officials

Daniel Kim Views

On the morning of February 10, Hampyeong County in South Jeolla Province launched a “Clean Culture Campaign for the Lunar New Year” in collaboration with the Hampyeong County Public Officials Union. The campaign targeted employees as they arrived at the county office for work.

The initiative aims to prevent various forms of corruption that may arise before and after the holiday season while fostering a shared commitment to integrity between labor and management.

The event saw participation from Hampyeong County Mayor Lee Sang-ik, the chairman of the county public officials union, and approximately 20 county officials. They provided guidance on gift acceptance criteria under the Anti-Corruption Act and communicated important service reminders for the holiday to county office employees.

Furthermore, the county is continuing its efforts to promote a culture of integrity during the holiday period. Banners with the message “No Giving or Receiving Gifts During the Lunar New Year” have been displayed at the county office and various town and village offices.

A county official expressed hope, stating, “We trust that this joint campaign between labor and management will serve as an opportunity for all public officials to reflect on the importance of integrity as we celebrate the Lunar New Year.”
