Park Hyun-soon, 66, has been elected as the 28th Chairperson of the Korean Theatre Association. His term will run until February 2030.

The Korean Theatre Association held its 65th annual general meeting on February 9 at the Lawoon Art Hall in Yangcheon District, Seoul. The organization announced on February 10 that the election for the 28th chairperson took place during this meeting.

Four candidates vied for the position: Oh Tae-keun, Park Hyun-soon, Park Jeong-ui, and Lee Hong-ki. As no candidate secured a majority in the initial round of voting, a runoff was conducted between the top two contenders. Park Hyun-soon emerged victorious with 268 votes, while Oh Tae-keun received 177 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Park expressed his commitment, stating, “With a strong determination to act and proven problem-solving skills, I pledge to lead from behind when it comes to authority and stand at the forefront when it comes to responsibility.”

Park has been serving as the Senior Vice Chairperson of the association since 2022. His extensive experience includes roles such as Director of the Korean Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, Director of the Korean Theatre Association, and Chairperson of the Daegu branch of the Korean Theatre Association. Among his accolades are the Chairperson’s Award from the Korean Theatre Association (1981), Best Director and Best Set Design awards at the Mugunghwa Theatre Festival (1992), and the prestigious Geumbok Cultural Award (2003).
