[Variety] Veteran singer-actor Lim Chang-jung has singled out IU as a junior artist who excels in both acting and singing.
On May 10, Lim Chang-jung, who recently made his musical comeback with the new single “Crazy Guy,” appeared as a guest on MBC FM4U’s “Midday Hope Song with Kim Shin-young.”
During the show, host Kim Shin-young asked Lim, “These days, people call you an ‘all-rounder,’ but in the past, you were known as a ‘versatile entertainer.’ Who do you think is the top singer nowadays?” Lim responded, “The younger artists today are incredibly talented. Having worked with them, I can see they’ve developed a strong work ethic and training regimen from a young age. With the advancement of media, they’re exposed to so much more, allowing them to grow and improve at a rapid pace.”
He added, “Watching them excel in both singing and acting makes me grateful I wasn’t born later. Back then, we specialized in either singing or acting. Now, some performers are brilliant singers but don’t pursue acting, while others are multi-talented. In the past, we compartmentalized our roles, but now we just have ‘entertainers’ and ‘artists.'” When Kim asked him to name his top three, Lim didn’t hesitate to praise IU, stating, “She’s absolutely phenomenal.”
Lim Chang-jung’s latest single “Crazy Guy” marks his return to the music scene approximately six months after his previous hit, “I Miss You, Who I Don’t Want to See.” Since his debut as a singer in 1995, Lim has released a string of chart-topping songs, including “Already to Me,” “A Glass of Soju,” “Lonely Breakup,” “You Who Resemble Me,” “The Love I Committed,” and “Love Again,” earning him a dedicated fanbase. As an actor, he’s also achieved commercial success with films like “Sex is Zero,” “Sicily 2km,” and “Miracle on 1st Street,” solidifying his reputation as a first-generation multi-talented entertainer.
In 2017, he married yoga instructor Seo Ha-yan and became a father of five sons, including his fourth and youngest sons.
