From Student to Admiral: The Inspiring Journey of Kyungsang High School’s Kim Jun-yeop

Daegu’s Gyeongsang High School celebrated a historic milestone as one of its alumni ascended to the rank of naval admiral.

The school announced on the 10th that Colonel Kim Jun-yeop, a graduate from the class of 2008, has been promoted to Brigadier General. In a recent personnel shake-up, the Ministry of Defense elevated 41 officers to Major General, with a total of 77 officers receiving Brigadier General promotions. Of these, 10 were from the Navy.

Kim’s promotion is a testament to his exceptional leadership in field command and organizational management, becoming a source of immense pride for both the school and the local community. The Navy traditionally honors schools that produce admirals (Brigadier General and above) with commendations.

Throughout his distinguished career, Brigadier General Kim has excelled in various operational and staff roles, making significant strides in optimizing force utilization, enhancing joint training exercises, and leading life-saving missions. His efforts to advance core combat capabilities and implement agile responses to evolving security challenges have earned him high regard within and beyond the Navy. Looking ahead, Kim is expected to assume crucial responsibilities in national security and maritime sovereignty protection.
