SK Oceanplant has secured a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) with the U.S. Navy, granting the company access to maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) projects for critical naval assets, including U.S. combat vessels, the firm announced Wednesday.

This landmark agreement represents a major step forward in SK Oceanplant’s global expansion strategy for ship MRO operations, an initiative that kicked off last year.

The deal was cemented following SK Oceanplant’s successful completion of a rigorous port security assessment conducted by the U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) in the previous month.

The MSRA is a coveted certification issued by the U.S. Navy to qualified domestic and allied shipyards, authorizing them to directly perform MRO tasks on major vessels, including frontline warships.

SK Oceanplant emphasized that this agreement serves as international validation of its specialized expertise in naval defense and maritime maintenance.

SK Oceanplant CEO Kang Young Kyu underscored that the MSRA is more than just a certification; it marks a strategic pivot for the company’s entry into the global defense network. Kang stated that SK Oceanplant aims to accelerate its expansion into the worldwide MRO market by strengthening partnerships with the U.S. Navy and other key allied naval forces.
