Amid growing concerns over the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), African swine fever (ASF), and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), NongHyup has intensified its disease response system inspections.

On March 5th, NongHyup Central Association announced that President Kang Ho-dong visited a central disinfection facility in Eumseong County to assess ongoing livestock disease prevention efforts.

This visit was arranged to evaluate on-site prevention measures and address concerns from officials in light of nationwide livestock disease outbreaks.

To swiftly contain these outbreaks, NongHyup has extended the operational period of 540 joint livestock disinfection teams run by local cooperatives and 114 private disinfection vehicles. Initially set to end in February, operations will now continue through March to bolster prevention efforts.

Furthermore, NongHyup has revised and implemented the ‘NongHyup-wide Livestock Disease Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)’ to enhance its response capabilities. The updated SOP clarifies reporting structures by organizational unit and refines emergency contact networks to ensure rapid initial responses.

NongHyup is also expanding support for farms near outbreak areas. It will provide quicklime and disinfectants to pig farms within management zones (a 10 km radius) to improve the effectiveness of field-level prevention measures.

President Kang emphasized, “Prevention and rapid initial response are crucial in livestock disease control.” He added, “NongHyup will collaborate closely with federal and local authorities to halt disease spread and safeguard both livestock farmers and national food security.”
