The fire aboard a 29-ton fishing vessel off Chagwido, Jeju, has been burning for seven hours and remains uncontrolled. Two Korean crew members are missing.
According to the Jeju Coast Guard, as of 5 p.m. on the 14th, crews were fighting a blaze on the Hallim-registered fishing vessel A (29 tons, 10 crew) about 90 km southwest of Chagwido, Hankyung-myeon, Jeju City.
Officials received a report of the fire on vessel A at around 10 a.m.
By about 10:50 a.m., authorities determined roughly 80% of the vessel had burned. The hull, made of FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic), has made extinguishing the fire difficult.
The vessel’s entry-exit tracking system showed four Koreans and six Indonesians aboard.
Of those, two Korean crew members—identified only as A and B, both in their 50s—are believed to have been below deck at the time and were unable to escape.

The coast guard said it is searching the surrounding waters and will conduct an on-board search as soon as the fire is brought under control. Ongoing smoke, however, has prevented teams from entering the vessel.
Eight crew members (two Koreans, six Indonesians) were rescued onto nearby vessels. Four Indonesian crew members who complained of pain from smoke inhalation were airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Jeju City.
The remaining four crew members are aboard a coast guard patrol vessel stationed at the scene.
A coast guard official said the patrol vessel carrying the rescued crew had been scheduled to dock at Jeju Port that afternoon but the arrival was postponed to prioritize firefighting and the search for the missing. The official added that the rescued crew members are in stable condition.
