Search teams were conducting their third day of operations on Soyang Lake in Yanggu, Gangwon Province, searching for a man in his 50s identified as A, who fell into the water while trying to grab a rope on a fishing boat. He has not been found.

The Gangwon Provincial Fire Department said on March 15 that it deployed 40 personnel and 19 pieces of equipment to carry out surface and underwater searches around Soyang Lake near Myeonggot-ri in Jeongjungang-myeon, Yanggu County, but had not located the missing man by 5 p.m.

Fire officials mobilized rescue squads and boats to concentrate search efforts on the lake.

At about 9:51 a.m. on March 13, a rope on a fishing boat moored to a barge at Soyang Lake came loose. A slipped into the water while trying to secure it and went missing.

Rescue teams searched that day without success and have continued the operation since the following day.

Police and fire authorities are continuing the search and investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
