Jindo County announced on the 18th that the Santa Monica—the passenger ferry linking Jindo Port and Jeju Port—has resumed service.
The ultra-fast coastal ferry had been out of service since October 22 of last year after a propeller malfunction.
After the operator completed pre-operation checks, including a temporary inspection, service restarted on the 16th.
At about 3,500 metric tons, the Santa Monica is an ultra-fast car ferry that can reach up to 42 knots and carries up to 606 passengers and 75 vehicles.
It previously ran two round trips a day; with the restart, it will operate one round trip daily.
The ferry departs Jindo Port at 8:00 AM and arrives at Jeju Port at 10:00 AM. From Jeju Port, it leaves at 4:20 PM and returns to Jindo Port at 6:20 PM.
Officials say the resumed route should make travel easier for visitors and give a welcome boost to local tourism.
