Jinan County in North Jeolla Province is moving forward with plans to become a global destination for extended-stay tourism.

On the 20th, the county announced it signed a partnership agreement with global hotel chain Hyatt — the first agreement of its kind at the county level in the country.

According to the county, a Hyatt-branded hotel is planned for the northern Maisan area. The 100-room property is expected to break ground this August and aims to be completed in the second half of 2028.

The county intends to use the 2026–27 “Year of Visiting Jinan” campaign to transform the area from a quick stopover into a place where visitors choose to stay longer.

Officials highlighted that the employment multiplier for service industries (including hotels and restaurants) is about twice that of manufacturing. They expect Hyatt’s arrival to create roughly 200 new jobs and produce over 50 billion KRW (approximately $37.5 million) in annual economic added value.

The employment multiplier refers to the number of jobs directly and indirectly generated when 1 billion KRW (approximately $750,000) worth of goods or services is produced.

The county plans to build a healing-tourism corridor linking Maisan, Yongdam Lake, and the National Jinan Highland Forest Healing Center, and to develop eco-friendly nature-tourism attractions tied to nearby ecological resources.

County Executive Jeon Chun-seong said, “This agreement is the first step beyond simply attracting a hotel. It marks Jinan’s leap toward becoming a globally recognized hub for extended-stay tourism and will become a new landmark for the region.”
