[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] For the first time, singer Hwanhee’s family story, long kept private, will be revealed.
On March 21, KBS2’s Men Doing Housework Season 2 (hereafter Men Doing Housework) will finally lift the veil on Hwanhee’s daily life after producers spent three years securing his participation.
In the episode, Hwanhee watches footage of a pre-meeting between the producers and his mother and is visibly shaken. He had assumed his mother was reserved and rarely spoke, but in front of the crew she presents a very different persona. When she admits she has never even been to Jeju Island, Hwanhee is stunned and privately berates himself, asking how he could have been so unaware. He then unexpectedly heads to his mother’s home, catching the production team off guard.
Visiting his mother’s house, Hwanhee encounters her daily routine for the first time in 30 years and is again taken aback. An awkward tension fills the room between a mother surprised by her son’s sudden arrival and a son seeing a side of his mother he never knew. The program also uncovers why the mother has avoided sharing meals with her son for more than a decade. Faced belatedly with his mother’s true feelings, Hwanhee is swept up in complex emotions, and viewers will be left wondering whether the pair can bridge the distance that’s grown between them.
The episode also shares, for the first time, the dramatic story of Hwanhee’s birth. Contrary to his current healthy appearance, he was born prematurely and his weight fell to just 1.5 kg, putting his survival at risk. His mother reveals she was even told to give him up, a confession that leaves Hwanhee stunned.
You can watch the story of Hwanhee and his mother—as they confront each other’s true feelings for the first time in 45 years—tonight (the 21st) at 9:20 p.m. KST.
