Hanwha Ocean has won consecutive maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contracts to service U.S. Navy vessels this year.

According to industry sources on the 25th, Hanwha Ocean secured one U.S. Navy MRO contract in February and another in March, covering two ships in total.

The vessels serviced were logistics-support ships of roughly 40,000 metric tons (approximately 44,100 short tons), tasked with delivering ammunition, food and fuel.

The February work was carried out in Jinhae in South Gyeongsang Province, while the March work took place in Busan. The ship serviced in Jinhae sailed earlier this month; the vessel in Busan is scheduled to return to duty in April.

A Hanwha Ocean official said, “We won two U.S. Navy MRO contracts this year and have delivered one. To build cooperative ties with local shipyards and specialized repair firms and to promote shared growth, we are carrying out maintenance for both contracts this year through partner companies.”
