People Power Party lawmaker Joo Jin-woo opened a campaign office on the afternoon of the 28th and formally launched his campaign in the party’s Busan mayoral primary.
At the opening, Joo unveiled his slogan, “Generational Change, Strong Busan.” MPs Kwak Kyu-taek, Kim Dae-sik, Kim Do-eup, Kim Mi-ae, Kim Hee-jung, Park Soo-young, Lee Seong-gwon, and Cho Seung-hwan, along with former lawmaker Yoo Jae-joong, attended. About 300 party members and supporters were on hand.
In his remarks, Joo said he would restore Busan’s pride and boldly transform the city into a younger, stronger metropolis. He described himself as “the legitimate heir of conservatism,” underscoring his political identity.
He recalled that as a senior administrative secretary in the Blue House under Park Geun-hye, he remained at his post through the impeachment crisis. During the Moon Jae-in administration, he said he resisted pressure from those in power and handled the Environment Ministry blacklist case according to law and principle, a stance that led to his demotion. Even when Moon’s approval rating reached 79%, Joo said, he did not flinch and stood at the forefront.
“When conservatism is in crisis, unity and harmony are paramount,” he said. He added that when he learned the party was considering a single-candidate nomination for Busan mayor, he demanded a primary without hesitation. “I believe division guarantees defeat and unity ensures victory,” he said.
On political responsibility, Joo said that while bowing and apologizing to the public matters, a genuine apology must be shown through action. “I will prove it with results,” he vowed. He emphasized that once he decides to fight, he does not back down—he intends to compete fiercely, win, and defend Busan.
