[By Jeong Ye-won, Sports Today] ‘Reply High School’ elicited both empathy and laughs with era-evoking graduation photo shoots and a hilariously tense test-of-courage segment.

In episode 7 of Mnet’s ‘Reply High School,’ which aired on March 27, students at Ujeong High preparing to graduate staged characterful senior photo shoots. Class 90 shot on film cameras, Class 00 worked with digital cameras, and Class 10 relied on smartphones and selfie sticks — each group meticulously recreating the visual details of its era. The contrast between Class 90, nervously waiting for film to be developed, and Class 10, who breezed through with modern devices, struck a chord with viewers. Notably, Class 00 nailed the textbook graduation poses, while Class 10 smeared themselves in flour from head to toe to perfectly evoke their era; both teams won first place in the common and elective challenges, earning 50 points apiece.

In the second-period music class that followed, broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu stepped in as instructor to host a music quiz tracing K-pop from the 1990s through the 2020s. Quizzes ranged from identifying light sticks to ‘name that song’ and dance charades, and the teams’ fierce competition kept the tension high. When Jang announced bonus points, the trainees sprang up and delivered some of their most intense performances yet, electrifying the studio. After a tight contest, Class 90 came out on top, led by Justin, who showcased standout skill and reinforced the group’s artist-in-training passion and talent.

The final after-school session, ‘Culture Night,’ quickly morphed into a terrifying test of courage. Members who had been watching a movie peacefully were dispatched to search the darkened school for a missing student. At first they clung to one another, but as the scares escalated, camaraderie gave way to chaos and everyone bolted — a sequence that had viewers laughing out loud. After the exercise, the participants watched clips of their screaming, sprinting classmates on live monitors and then, as if nothing had happened, reverted to playful banter, leaving audiences smiling.

Reply High School, which has captured viewers with its lighthearted variety appeal and the trainees’ unpolished charm, airs Fridays at 8:20 PM on Mnet and Mnet Plus.
