Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, killed three Lebanese journalists.

Lebanese authorities and local media reported that on March 28 (local time) Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed two broadcast reporters and a cameraman.

The three were traveling together by car near the southern town of Jezzine when the vehicle was struck.

The Israeli military identified one of the dead as Ali Chouaib, a reporter for Al-Manar, a broadcaster run by Hezbollah. It said the other two were a reporter and a cameraman for Al-Mayadeen, a pro-Iran outlet.

The military further alleged that Chouaib served as an intelligence operative with Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit and accused him of revealing Israeli positions and circulating Hezbollah propaganda.

The New York Times reported that Israel did not provide evidence when asked to substantiate those claims.

President Michel Aoun of Lebanon condemned the killings, calling them a blatant crime that violates the most basic principles of international law.

A Human Rights Watch official also said that reporting on military advances or taking part in propaganda activities does not, by itself, make someone a lawful military target.

Separately, Israeli forces used force against a CNN crew in the West Bank.

According to the Foreign Press Association (FPA), on March 26 Israeli soldiers aimed guns at a CNN camera crew that was covering settler violence and ordered them to stop filming.

The FPA said troops then grabbed and choked a cameraman from behind, pushed him, damaged his camera and detained members of the crew.

Lieutenant Col. Nadav Shoshani, an Israeli military spokesman, said on X that the army will investigate the incident. He expressed regret and said, \”Our mission is to uphold law and order, which includes protecting press freedom.\”
