Aero K Airlines is launching a new route to Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province, expanding its presence deeper into China.
The carrier announced on March 30 that irregular flights between Cheongju International Airport and Shijiazhuang will begin on April 1.
The service will operate through October 24 to respond to growing demand for China routes centered on the Chungcheong area and to generate fresh tourism interest.
The inaugural flight sold 162 of 180 seats, recording roughly a 90% booking rate.
The Cheongju–Shijiazhuang route will run twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays). Outbound flights depart Cheongju around 1:00 p.m. and arrive in Shijiazhuang around 2:00 p.m. Return flights leave at about 3:00 p.m. and land back in Cheongju around 6:00 p.m.
Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, sits about an hour away from Beijing by high-speed rail, giving it strong transport links.
The region offers attractions such as the Seobaekpa Revolutionary Site, Zhengding Ancient City and Changyanshan, along with natural scenery like the Taihang Mountains’ Grand Canyon—making it an appealing companion destination to Beijing.
The new route will improve South Korean tourists’ access to inland China and is expected to stimulate tourism demand in Hebei Province, including Shijiazhuang.
Officials also anticipate that increased arrivals of Chinese travelers at Cheongju Airport will boost longer-stay tourism in the Chungcheong region and spur more trips linked to the Seoul metropolitan area.
Aero K said it plans to use Cheongju Airport as a hub to expand routes across China and Asia, aiming to drive inbound demand and strengthen regional tourism competitiveness.
An Aero K official said, “Shijiazhuang has high growth potential and strong links with Beijing. We will continue developing distinctive routes to attract foreign visitors and help revitalize the local economy.”
