U.S. military officials said they achieved a decisive military victory against Iran immediately after a two-week cease-fire went into effect.

At 8 a.m. local time on the 8th — roughly 12 hours after the truce began — Secretary of Defense Pete Heggses and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kane held a press briefing to outline the operation’s results.

Reuters quoted Heggses as saying Iran’s military capability had been annihilated and claiming the U.S. employed less than 10% of its total military power during Operation “Epic Fury.”

He added that Iran requested the cease-fire and that Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Hameinei, had been wounded and left disfigured.

Describing the air campaign immediately before the truce, Heggses said U.S. forces carried out 800 airstrikes on the night of the 7th, destroying Iran’s defense-industrial base and razing the country’s military factories.

On the extent of Iranian damage, he said Iran’s missile program has been functionally destroyed and its factories reduced to rubble.

Kane said President Donald Trump’s planned military objectives had been met and welcomed the two-week cease-fire.

Regarding the overall scale of strikes, he said U.S. forces struck more than 13,000 targets over roughly 38 days after beginning operations on Feb. 28.
