[Sports Today reporter Jeong Ye-won] The three-member group SeeYa (Nam Gyu-ri, Kim Yeon-ji, Lee Bo-ram) has opened up about experiences they never revealed during their heyday. As allegations of misconduct by their former agency surfaced, the group has drawn criticism for the company and an outpouring of support from netizens.

SeeYa appeared on Ha Ji-young’s YouTube channel on the 8th and finally spoke about memories they had kept private. Host Ha Ji-young referenced a remark from a fan meeting and asked, \”Didn’t you say you used to live on cereal and instant noodles?\”

Earlier at a fan event, SeeYa recounted being turned away from a restaurant because they couldn’t pay. They say their former agency failed to cover meal bills for three months, and the restaurant refused service.

Lee Bo-ram recalled, \”When we ran into other celebrities, they’d say, ‘You should buy it — you make a lot.’ We weren’t making much, so we wondered why anyone thought we were rich. We realized celebrity life can be all show. We even joked about dressing in a mascot costume and doing part-time work. At home, all I had were cereal and cup noodles.\”

Nam Gyu-ri added, \”On long event days we’d stop at highway rest areas and eat ramen mixed with rice. But when we met fans, people would gush, sing along and say how much they loved SeeYa. Back at the dorm we’d spread newspaper on the floor and eat cereal while ants crawled around. That gap was huge. As artists you need pride, but that environment made us fragile.\”

The members also accused the agency of sowing discord among them. Nam Gyu-ri said that as her solo work increased and schedules diverged, misunderstandings accumulated. \”Good things can sound bad when passed along, and bad things can sound worse,\” she said, referencing past rumors of infighting.

Lee Bo-ram recalled, \”Once Gyu-ri called and asked, ‘They say you did this — is it true?’ Someone had spread lies to drive a wedge between us. We told her, ‘You can check the CCTV. That never happened.’ She said, ‘I asked because I didn’t want us to misunderstand each other. I’ll trust you.’ We even cleared it up among ourselves.\”

SeeYa debuted in 2006 and released hits including \”Scent of a Woman,\” \”Greeting of Love,\” \”Shoes\” and \”That Man’s Voice.\” The trio’s powerful vocals and chemistry made a lasting impression and earned them widespread affection. They remain one of the defining R&B groups of the mid-to-late 2000s.

Their peak was dazzling, but the reality behind the scenes was different. The members say conflicts stemming from their former agency’s misconduct, together with swirling rumors, led to the group’s breakup in 2011 — a disappointing end for a group that had won nationwide popularity.

Recently, driven by the members’ determination, SeeYa announced a reunion. They have launched promotional activities ahead of a full-length album due next month.

Despite their early success, the agency’s behavior left lasting damage. Fifteen years later the three have come back together, and fans and the public are rallying behind them.
