The Korea Construction Industry Quality Institute has been designated as a safety inspection agency for children’s play facilities, expanding its testing and certification operations.

On the 17th, the institute said the Ministry of the Interior and Safety designated it to conduct installation inspections and periodic facility inspections of children’s play areas. It plans to begin those duties in earnest next month.

The institute, established in 2000 by the Korea Specialty Contractors Association, is a specialized organization in the construction sector. It conducts construction materials testing and inspections, quality management, and KSA certification services. Observers say its accumulated technical expertise and experience in testing and certification have helped it build a reputation for reliable inspections.

With the designation, the institute has expanded its business portfolio to include safety management for children’s play facilities. Under the Children’s Play Facility Safety Management Act, all playground equipment must undergo safety inspections: an initial inspection upon installation and at least one regular inspection every two years.

An institute official said, \”We will provide impartial, reliable inspection services based on our accumulated technical expertise and experience,\” and added that the institute aims to help raise safety standards in children’s play environments.
