Naver Ends 19-Year ‘Related Search’ Service: What Does This Mean for AI Search?

AI search push reduces need for the service

Naver will retire its “Related Searches” feature after 19 years.

Industry sources said on April 7 that Naver announced on April 6 via its Naver Search Blog that the Related Searches feature — which appeared at the top of unified search results — will be discontinued after April 30. The feature debuted in 2007.

The feature displayed suggested terms at the top of results — words users were likely to search along with their query.

But Naver’s push into AI-driven search has, the company says, made the older feature less necessary. Last year Naver introduced “AI Briefing,” an AI-based search service, and rolled out an AI-generated query suggestion tool that can replace Related Searches.

Since last year, Naver said, it has focused on expanding AI-powered search experiences: refining “AI Briefing” to summarize results, enhancing “Related Questions” to help users explore topics, and launching AI-based query suggestions to better match user intent and context.

The company said this change is part of that broader effort and that it will continue integrating AI with search to provide richer, more reliable results.
