Kim Young-hoon, South Korea’s Minister of Employment and Labor, traveled to Jinju in South Gyeongsang Province to mediate talks between the Cargo Truckers’ Union and BGF Retail after a union member was killed in an accident. He arrived at the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s Jinju branch at about 8:05 p.m. on the 28th as the fourth round of negotiations between the Cargo Truckers’ Union and BGF Logis, a BGF Retail subsidiary, was underway.Kim urged both sides to negotiate carefully to produce a constructive outcome. He plans to wait outside the negotiation room and monitor the discussions, and he will remain in Jinju on the 29th to intervene personally if disagreements persist. On the morning of the 20th, at about 10:30 a.m., during a Cargo Truckers’ Union rally in front of the Jinju CU logistics center, a truck driven by a nonunion driver struck union members, killing one person and injuring two others. The Cargo Truckers’ Union and BGF Logis began talks on the 22nd about improving working conditions for CU logistics center cargo workers, but aside from a few clauses they have not closed the gaps.#KimYoungHoon #MinistryOfEmploymentAndLabor #CargoTruckersUnion #BGFRetail #BGFLogis #CU #LogisticsCenter #JinjuLogisticsCenterYonhap News TV inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23; Choi Ji-won (jiwoner@yna.co.kr)
