[EPN Enpinow Reporter Go Nari] Actor Kwon Oh-joong revealed on air that his son, Hyukjun, was a victim of school bullying, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from viewers.
On the April 29 broadcast of KBS1’s program \”Hwang Shin-hye’s Let’s Live Together,\” Kwon said his son endured prolonged harassment while in middle school.
Kwon recalled a period when his son refused to attend school and reported being assaulted. Kwon went to confront the student he suspected, but the student dismissed the claim, saying, \”I get along with him so well,\” which left Kwon confused. He also admitted that he had initially doubted his son and even scolded him.
He said the situation later became much worse. Only after his son was injured and taken to the hospital did Kwon learn that five students had been repeatedly tormenting him for about a year. He said the students pretended to be friends, lured his son into a bathroom and assaulted him, and even struck him with a stick, causing serious physical and psychological harm.
Kwon said his son was once attacked while looking out a window and suffered glass fragments embedded in his neck. He explained that a subsequent police report corroborated these details.
He also described the disciplinary actions taken against the students. One transferred to another school, but the others were only reassigned to different classes within the same school. Kwon said they later claimed they were the ones being reported and intensified their harassment, so the abuse continued.
Kwon said, \”School bullying inflicts pain not only on the victims but on their parents as well,\” expressing the emotional toll the situation has taken. He added, \”Our hope is for our child to live an ordinary life,\” and became visibly emotional while looking at his son.
Kwon married in 1996 and has a son, Hyukjun, who is reported to have a developmental disability resulting from a rare disease.
