Namyangju City, in Gyeonggi Province, announced on April 30 that it convened the 2026 Namyangju Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee to provide practical assistance to youths in crisis and to strengthen the local community safety net.

The Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee is composed of experts from key partner agencies — including the city, the Guri-Namyangju Office of Education, Namyangju Police Station, the employment center, and the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center — and is tasked with reviewing and approving concrete measures to protect and rehabilitate youths in crisis.

At the April 29 meeting, the city’s Director of Culture and Education, who serves as the committee chair, and other members designated 49 youths who lack parental care and are experiencing social and economic hardship as recipients of special support.

Participants agreed to provide individualized, needs-based assistance—such as basic living support and educational aid—and held in-depth discussions on activating the community safety net to identify youths in welfare blind spots at an earlier stage.

Lee Hyung-sook, director of the city’s Culture and Education Bureau, said, \”It is critical to build a robust safety net so young people do not abandon their aspirations because of adverse circumstances. We will continue working closely with partner agencies to expand tailored welfare services that deliver tangible support to youths in crisis.\”

Meanwhile, the city offers a range of programs through its Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, including crisis counseling, emergency assistance, and support for independent living. If you know a young person who needs help, call the Youth Counseling Hotline at 1388.
