[MyDaily = Reporter Lee Jung-min] Blackpink’s Lisa is slated to perform at the opening ceremony for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
On the 8th (local time), U.S. sports outlet The Athletic reported that FIFA is preparing opening-ceremony performances that will feature Lisa alongside other global artists.
The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with each host nation staging its own opening show ahead of its first match.
According to the report, Lisa is expected to perform before the U.S. vs. Paraguay match at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Katy Perry, Future and DJ Sanjoy are also scheduled to appear at that event.
In Toronto, Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette and Alessia Cara are lined up to perform, while Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca will host performances by Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda and Thalía.
The ceremonies are expected to last roughly 13 minutes in both the U.S. and Canada, and about 16 minutes 30 seconds in Mexico.
This will not be the first time a K-pop artist has appeared at a World Cup opening. At the 2022 Qatar tournament, BTS member Jungkook performed the official soundtrack “Dreamers” at the opening, drawing widespread attention.
Born in Thailand, Lisa debuted with Blackpink in 2016. She has since built a successful solo career and remains a global star. Her 2021 solo debut, LALISA, sold about 736,000 copies in its first week — then the highest opening-week sales for a K-pop female solo artist.
