Kakao’s union announced today (June 1) that it will stage a four-hour partial strike on June 10. The Kakao branch of the National Union of Chemical, Textile and Food Industry Workers issued a statement laying out its demands and the strike schedule. The union said its core demand is to stop sales, spinoffs, and restructuring driven by what it describes as ongoing management failures, and to secure job stability. It also demanded reform of a management-centered compensation system that concentrates outsized rewards among executives while flawed decisions by management create employment insecurity. The union acknowledged widespread public concern about potential disruptions to KakaoTalk and other services people rely on daily, and said it will hold a four-hour partial strike and a rally in Pangyo on Wednesday, June 10. It added that it will begin with a partial four-hour walkout rather than an immediate full strike and may escalate its actions depending on the progress of negotiations.
