Kyungbok University is breaking down an insular campus culture and reimagining itself as an open cultural space for local residents. On the 21st, the university will host the Hayang Farm sheep experience on the lawn at its Namyangju campus from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event goes beyond a simple animal exhibit. Through interaction with what organizers call “the world’s whitest sheep,” it aims to reduce students’ academic stress and offer visiting families a chance for emotional relief. The university has installed scenic photo zones across campus to give visitors places to linger.

The university’s decision to share its resources with the community is producing visible change. Long seen mainly as a site for scholarly work, the campus is now trying to become a cultural platform and a hub for the local community.

“I always thought university campuses were off-limits, so I’m glad there’s an event where my children and I can relax and see the sheep,” a resident said.

“We hope this event leaves warm memories for students and residents,” a Kyungbok University official said. “We will continue to develop hands-on programs to build a campus culture that engages the local community.”
