[Green Economy News = Kim Ji-yoon] Samsung Electronics is accelerating a next-generation home-lifestyle strategy in North America centered on artificial intelligence (AI) appliances.

Samsung hosted the appliance technology seminar ‘The Brief New York’ over two days starting on the 15th (local time) at the Connected Experience Center (CEC) in New Jersey and unveiled its AI-based ‘Home Companion’ vision. The event was aimed at local media and influencers.

At the core of the event was the ‘Home Companion’ scenario, designed to cut household chores and improve quality of life. Samsung described applying AI recognition across major appliances—refrigerators, ovens and robot vacuums—to create an integrated solution that covers ingredient tracking, cooking and cleaning.

The 2026 ‘BESPOKE AI Family Hub’ refrigerator automatically detects ingredients moving in and out using internal cameras. It identifies food types and even container labels, saving the information to a ‘Food List’ so users can check the fridge remotely and avoid duplicate purchases.

The ‘BESPOKE AI Oven’ recognizes ingredients with an internal camera and recommends optimal cooking settings. It also monitors color changes during cooking and notifies the user if intervention is needed.

Samsung has also advanced AI in cleaning. The ‘BESPOKE AI Steam Ultra’ robot vacuum combines an RGB camera with infrared LEDs to detect even clear liquids, allowing it to either avoid spills or concentrate cleaning on them.

The company strengthened its refrigerator lineup with features tailored to local demand for large-capacity storage, hygiene and space efficiency.

Notable additions include an expanded interior called ‘Space Max (Space Max)’, an automatic water-supply ‘Auto Fill’ purifier, an internal dispenser dubbed the ‘Beverage Center’, and an ‘Ice Maker’ that produces six types of ice. Samsung also introduced a French-door model that uses ‘Zero Clearance’ technology to enable built-in installation with as little as a 4mm gap on either side.

Moon Jong-seung, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Digital Appliances (DA) business, said, “AI appliances are evolving beyond simple devices into ‘home companions’ that understand and assist consumers’ lives,” adding, “We will strengthen our market push based on features optimized for North American lifestyles and our AI ecosystem.”
