SK Incheon Petrochemical is once again running the Hope Growth Sports Class this year to help children with developmental disabilities find emotional stability, improve social skills and boost physical fitness.

On April 19, SK Incheon Petrochemical and the Seo-gu Welfare Center for People with Disabilities in Incheon announced they will operate the Hope Growth Sports Class for children with developmental disabilities living in Seo-gu (the city’s West District).

This year, 130 students from special education classes at 12 elementary schools in Seo-gu will participate. Each group will receive 3 sessions and take part in a small sports meet through November.

Led by professional instructors, the program offers customized activities tailored to each child’s developmental level and prior experience. Through sports such as basketball and soccer, participants will build basic fitness, expand their physical-activity skills, learn a variety of movements and have structured time to interact with peers.

Oh Tae-hyung, director of the Seo-gu Welfare Center for People with Disabilities, said, “I hope the Hope Growth Sports Class gives children with developmental disabilities a valuable chance to build confidence and naturally socialize with their peers.”

A spokesperson for SK Incheon Petrochemical said, “We will continue to stay engaged and support these children so physical activity can bring more energy to their daily lives and help them grow steadily.”

The Hope Growth Sports Class began in 2016 as a sports program run by SK Incheon Petrochemical, the Seo-gu Welfare Center for People with Disabilities and local professional sports teams in Incheon. It paused during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been operated in its current format since 2023.
