(The CEN News / Reporter Jeong Seo-hye) As spring settles in, Seoul will host a quirky “pajama nap” event—the 2026 Han River Pajama Nap Contest—on May 2.

The event is part of the “Book-Reading Han River Park” series, designed to give busy urban residents a chance to rest and recharge.

The contest will be held at the Multi Plaza in Yeouido’s Han River Park. Organizers will select 170 participants in advance from applicants; applications are open on the program’s official website.

Judges will name the participant who sleeps most deeply and peacefully during the allotted time the winner. Contestants who open their eyes or leave their spot after the contest starts will be immediately disqualified. Anyone who disturbs another participant’s sleep—such as allowing a phone to ring—will also be removed. Detailed judging criteria will be announced on the day of the event.

Participants are welcome to come in pajamas that reflect their personal style. Organizers will provide rest items on site, including yoga mats, bean bags and camping chairs.

The event is notable for prioritizing rest over competition. It promises a novel experience in which eating well, taking time to rest and sleeping freely become the main attraction.

As experiential pop-ups gain traction on social media, the Han River Pajama Nap Contest could appeal to residents looking for an unusual weekend diversion.
