Unexpected Neighborly Gifts: How a Baby’s 100-Day Celebration Sparked Community Love

A parent who delivered rice cakes to neighbors to mark their baby’s 100th day — a Korean milestone known as baek-il — and then received unexpected congratulatory gifts drew attention online.

On the 24th, an online community posted a thread titled “I gave 100-day rice cakes to my neighbors,” accompanied by photos.

The poster, identified only as A, distributed 100-day rice cakes to the upstairs, downstairs and adjacent neighbors. To avoid imposing, A left the cakes hanging on doorknobs with short notes.

Neighbors soon returned the kindness. The next-door neighbor left a thank-you gift first, and the downstairs neighbor followed with a congratulatory present the next day.

The posted photos showed a pink baby onesie, a rabbit stuffed animal and a handwritten note.

The note read, “Thank you for the precious 100-day rice cake. Wow — already 100 days! Happy 100th day to your lovely baby. Wishing them health and happiness always.”

A said they were deeply moved by the unexpected response.
