Is Your Child Spending Too Much? Chef Jeong Ji-sun’s Son Reveals Shocking Monthly Expenses!

Translation result.셰프 [Herald Economy = Reporter Jang Yeon-ju] Chef Jung Ji-seon’s elementary-school son surprised viewers when he talked about his experience investing in stocks. Jung also expressed concern about his son’s spending habits.

On the April 26 episode of KBS2TV’s ‘사장님 귀는 당나귀 귀’ (Boss, Your Ears Are Donkey Ears), Jung and his son engaged in a tense conversation over the boy’s allowance and spending.

Jung asked his son, “You still trade stocks these days? How did you get started?”

The boy replied, “Dad gave me 5,000원 (about $3.75) to start, and it grew from there. At first I made 20,000원 (about $15.00), and later about 150,000원 (about $112.50) in profit.”

Jung pressed, “Where did all the money you earned go? You have to study hard to do well in stocks.”

The boy answered, “The money I made from stocks is in my account. I invested in companies like HyundaiOOO and HanwhaOO, and so far I’ve earned about 200,000원 (about $150.00) total.”

When Jung asked if he understood the value of money, the boy surprised him again: “These days I spend about 200,000원–300,000원 (about $150.00–$225.00) a month.”

Jung pushed back, “You’re a sixth grader — where would you need to spend that much? Your monthly allowance is 50,000원 (about $37.50). You’re spending a lot.”

The boy defended himself, “I don’t know exactly where the money goes. Honestly, I think I need to spend about 200,000원 a month. My friends spend more, prices have gone up, and unexpected expenses come up. I’m not just wasting it.”

Jung criticized his son’s spending again: “Is it too much for an elementary student to spend 300,000원 (about $225.00) a month? Should I sign you up for more after-school classes? Save your money.”

The boy shot back, “I didn’t spend 300,000원 (about $225.00). I spent 290,000원 (about $217.50).”

Later, Jung told the cast, “My son has really grown. He doesn’t want to listen anymore. I’m trying to hold my ground, too.”
