[Asia Times — Bae Jong-wan] Lotte Department Store is staging the country’s first-ever Tumbler Festival among domestic department stores as it pushes to expand the market. The retailer says tumblers—once a symbol of eco-conscious consumption—are now emerging as lifestyle accessories that express personal taste.

Industry sources said on May 10 that Lotte Department Store will run a major tumbler event at locations nationwide from May 8 through June 11, featuring roughly 20 participating brands. Analysts point to rising coffee consumption and growing participation in everyday sports such as running and hiking as drivers of the rapid increase in tumbler demand. Sales at major brands like Thermos and Regote rose by about 60% last year.

The event’s centerpiece is Asia’s first mega Hydro Flask pop-up, running at Jamsil Lotte World Mall from May 9–19. The pop-up will showcase the full Micro Hydro lineup and Hydro Flask’s new 2026 color collection, deliberately aimed at the mini-tumbler market for runners and outdoor enthusiasts.

The site also includes a \”Tumku Zone\” — a tumbler-customizing area. Buyers can get engraving services, and the organizers will run interactive activities such as stopwatch challenges and beanbag tosses to add experiential elements beyond simple sales.

At the same time, major Lotte Department Store locations nationwide will host special tumbler fairs, offering discounts of up to 80% on popular items. The stores will also run gift-card promotions tied to purchase thresholds.

Industry observers say tumblers have moved beyond basic household goods and are evolving into a new consumer category within the fashion and lifestyle market.

Kim I-su, head of Lotte Department Store’s Kitchen & Bedding team, said, “Tumblers have become an everyday essential—office workers, runners and students typically own at least one—and they are shifting into preference-driven products. We will continue to seek out diverse tumbler brands and develop tumblers into a strategic product category for our department stores.”
