KakaoTalk and smartphones are essential tools in modern life. We open them dozens of times a day, yet most of their features go unused (we use less than 10% of them). Beyond simple messaging, power users rely on KakaoTalk as a calendar, a document scanner, and a smart storage manager. Here are the tips they use.

We gathered practical tips anyone can try—from device novices to professionals looking to work more efficiently.

1. Avoid expired files: make the most of ‘Chat with Myself’ (200% utilization)

Have you saved an important photo or work file to your ‘Chat with Myself’ only to find, days later, that the file has expired? Regular chat files are deleted after a set period, but you can turn that space into permanent storage.

Try Talk Drawer Plus. KakaoTalk’s cloud service, Talk Drawer, backs up chats, photos, videos, files, and links to its servers. Your data stays intact when you switch phones, and keyword tags make it easy to pull the exact file you need from a large archive.

The Board feature is also helpful. If you want to keep information for yourself or store long-form text, post it to the chat’s Board. Unlike regular messages, posts and images on the Board are stored without expiration.

2. Transcribe meetings in real time: AI voice-to-text

If you recorded a meeting or lecture, re-listening and transcribing is tedious. Use the AI built into KakaoTalk’s voice messages and save time.

Tap the ‘T’ icon. When you send a voice message, tap the ‘T (text)’ icon at the bottom. KakaoTalk converts speech to text instantly and sends it like live captions.

You can also convert received voice messages to text. If you must check a voice note in a quiet place, press and hold the message or tap the icon beside it to see a text version—no headphones needed.

3. Never miss a birthday or deadline: scheduled messages

We’ve all planned to send something first thing in the morning and forgotten by afternoon. KakaoTalk’s scheduled messages fix that.

Set it up this way: tap the ‘+’ at the bottom left of a chat and choose ‘Scheduled Message.’ Enter the text, pick the date and time, and select the recipient. That’s it.

Use it for precise timing: send birthday wishes at midnight, schedule a morning reminder for a coworker, or preset notifications for appointments. It’s an easy way to manage relationships and responsibilities.

4. Free up space in 10 seconds: speed up a lagging app

If KakaoTalk is eating gigabytes and slowing your phone, start by clearing the cache. This speeds the app without deleting your chats.

To clear cache: go to [Settings > More > Storage Management] and tap ‘Delete Cache Data.’ This removes temporary files your phone saved to preview photos and videos faster. The original photos and text in your chat rooms remain, so it’s safe to delete. You can free hundreds of megabytes to several gigabytes with this one step.

5. Never miss an important message: organize chat order

If dozens of group chats bury messages from family or partners, it’s time to organize.

Pin and favorite key chats. Long-press the most important conversation and choose ‘Pin to Top’ (up to five chats).

Sorting by unread is another timesaver. Go to [Settings > Chats > Chat List Order] and select ‘Unread First.’ Any chat with unread messages moves to the top, so you won’t have to scroll through every conversation to find what’s new.

6. Shake to pay: speed up payments with the Shake feature

Opening KakaoTalk, hunting for your wallet, and finding a QR code can feel slow at a store or restaurant. A quick phone shake shortens the whole process.

Set it up at [Settings > More > Shake Feature] and choose ‘QR Check-in’ or ‘KakaoPay Payment.’ With KakaoTalk open, lightly shake your phone twice to pop up the payment or wallet screen—handy when your arms are full or you’re in a rush.

7. Curious but don’t want to mark as read: preview messages

Sometimes you want to see a message without clearing the unread badge. Both major platforms offer ways to preview.

On iPhone, press and hold a chat in the list with Haptic Touch to preview recent lines without opening the conversation.

On Android, use ‘Notification history’ in your phone settings to view the full messages that appeared in the notification panel without launching the app—useful for long messages you don’t want to open yet.

Play YouTube while you sleep: set a sleep timer

Here are a few extra smartphone tips. Your phone includes useful features beyond KakaoTalk—use them to improve daily life without installing extra apps.

If you fall asleep while listening to YouTube or music, a timer can prevent battery drain.

On iPhone, open the Clock app, go to Timer, tap ‘When Timer Ends,’ and select ‘Stop Playing’ at the bottom. When the timer finishes, any playing media—YouTube, Netflix, or other—stops automatically.

On Android, use ‘Bedtime mode’ in Digital Wellbeing to limit app use at a set time and shift the screen to grayscale to encourage sleep.

Easily scan documents into PDFs with the Notes app

If you need to scan and email a document quickly, you don’t need an expensive scanner or a trip to a convenience store.

On iPhone, open Notes, tap the camera icon, and choose ‘Scan Documents.’ The app detects the paper’s corners, straightens the image, and removes shadows to produce a high-quality PDF that looks like it came from a scanner.

On Android, Samsung Notes or the default Camera app recognizes documents, outlines them in yellow, and shows a ‘Scan’ button. After capturing, you can enhance the text and run OCR to extract text in one step.

The most important point is to keep any {vi[numeric value]}) tokens unchanged. Please ensure the final result contains the same number of {vi[numeric value]}) tokens as the first translated result.
