Tucked into a quiet forest of tall trees, a handsome country house draws attention with a design that invites residents to savor nature’s calm and quiet romance. Located in Le Perche, Normandy, the 220 m² home (about 2,368 sq ft; 67 pyeong) is a careful remodel of an old house inherited from the owner’s grandfather, updated to fit contemporary life and serving as a private family retreat for peaceful rural living.

Originally built in the 1970s and reshaped through several additions and renovations, the house’s layout includes a first floor with a living room; a combined kitchen and dining area; two bedrooms; a bathroom and a separate toilet; a laundry room; storage; a terrace; and an entryway. The second floor houses four bedrooms along with bathrooms and an additional toilet.

The home’s generous outdoor terrace is a standout, offering sweeping views of blue skies and the surrounding forest. Furnished with an outdoor dining set, sun loungers and benches, it has been arranged as a cozy, restorative space—ideal for soaking up sunlight and fresh breezes and for quiet, unhurried relaxation.

In the living room, which frames the verdant forest just beyond the windows, the owners have arranged furniture and lighting from notable designers to create a refined yet relaxed interior. A highlight is French artist Jean Rispal’s Praying Mantis floor light, which anchors the room alongside carefully chosen pieces that emphasize comfort and quiet elegance.

The kitchen and dining area was designed for ease and conviviality. Simple, custom white-wood built-in cabinetry with an integrated sink follows an efficient workflow, and a generously sized dining table anchors the space—creating a relaxed area where cooking and shared meals naturally come together.
