Set amid a stand of mature trees in rural Normandy, a refurbished country house marries rustic calm with thoughtful design. Located in Le Perche, the 220m² (about 2,368 sq ft, 67 pyeong) residence began as an ancestral home passed down from the owner’s grandfather; it has been sensitively remodeled for modern living and now functions as a tranquil family retreat.

Built in the 1970s and altered through successive additions and renovations, the house is arranged over two levels. The first floor contains a living room; a combined kitchen and dining area; two bedrooms; a bathroom and separate toilet; a laundry room; storage; a terrace; and an entry hall. The second floor houses four bedrooms along with bathrooms and an additional toilet.

The broad outdoor terrace looks out over blue skies and dense woodland. Furnished with an outdoor dining set, sun loungers and benches, it’s been composed as a restorative space where sunlight and fresh breezes encourage slow, unhurried moments.

The living room, framed by vibrant views of the surrounding woods, features carefully chosen pieces by noted designers. Among them is the Praying Mantis floor light by French artist Jean Rispal. The curated mix of furniture and lighting gives the room an elegant, restrained atmosphere that complements country living.

A simple, custom white-wood built-in sink is arranged along an efficient work flow, and a generously sized dining table anchors the space. Together they create a relaxed kitchen-dining area that encourages cooking and shared meals in equal measure.
