[Variety] Baek Jong-won, the renowned restaurateur and TV personality, is mourning the loss of his mother.
Lee Kyung-sook, Baek’s mother, passed away on the 10th at the age of 86.
The wake will be held in Room 31 at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. The funeral is set for the 13th, with the burial to take place in Seogye-yang-ri, Sinyang-myeon, Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province.
Baek is survived by his brother Jong-jin, sisters Jong-ran and Soon-young, and sisters-in-law So Yoo-jin and Jo Sung-kyung. His grandchildren include Yong-hee, Seo-hyun, and Se-eun.
In a 2022 YouTube video, Baek shared touching memories of his mother.
He revealed, “When I decided to go into the restaurant business, my grandparents were strongly against it. My mother faced a lot of criticism from my grandmother because of my choice.” He added, “My mother endured hardships that went beyond typical in-law struggles. I’m incredibly grateful to her and deeply sorry. She bore the brunt of my mother-in-law’s disapproval because of me.”
