The producer of KBS2’s “Immortal Songs” has addressed the buzz surrounding entertainer Lee Hwi-jae’s anticipated comeback to the small screen.
Speaking to Sports Today on the 5th, the show’s producer revealed that Lee was approached as part of a special “King of Entertainers” competition they’re planning.
This star-studded special will feature 10 competing teams. The producer explained their casting strategy, saying they sought out celebrities who, while not professional singers, have either released music or have a genuine passion for singing. They also considered factors like public recognition and on-screen charisma.
Lee fits the bill perfectly for this non-traditional singing competition. “Lee Hwi-jae has released an album in the past,” the producer noted. “We also thought about how he’d mesh with our diverse lineup, which includes personalities like Jo Hye-ryeon, Park Jun-hyung, Song Il-gook, Kim Shin-young, and Hong Seok-cheon.”
This marks a significant return for Lee, who, along with his wife Moon Jung-won, stepped away from the public eye in 2022 following controversies involving noise complaints and a toy-related dispute. His appearance on “Immortal Songs” will end his four-year hiatus from television.
Fans can look forward to Lee’s episode, which will be recorded on the 16th of this month and aired in two parts on March 28 and April 4.
