[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] Producer Na Young-seok has finally revealed the backstory behind the viral “Kang Ho-dong bomdong bibimbap.”
On the 17th, Na appeared on the YouTube channel “Channel Sip-oya” to share behind-the-scenes details from the shoot that sparked the craze.
In the video, Na referred to the bomdong bibimbap that surged in popularity after Kang Ho-dong’s mukbang. “I don’t want to brag,” he said, “but only two people on Earth have ever tasted that bibimbap. One is Ho-dong, and the other is me — I was on that shoot.” He leaned into the claim, insisting he was the original.
Lee Myung-han, who served as CP on 1 Night, 2 Days at the time, playfully countered that he thought he had gone along and filmed it, drawing laughter. Ultimately, Na conceded that there were three original bibimbap tasters.
Na added that the flavor stayed with him; each spring he’d buy bomdong hoping to recreate it, but he never could. Then he dropped a surprise: on reflection, the greens used back then weren’t bomdong at all but young napa cabbage. Because the elderly woman on set called it bomdong, they assumed it was.
