Jo In-sung’s Brand Controversy: How Exchange Rates Sparked a Political Firestorm

[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Actor Jo In-sung is facing a wave of politically motivated online harassment.

On the 5th, political comments flooded Jo In-sung’s social media post. Although the post concerned the brand that hired him as a model, unrelated abusive remarks overwhelmed the thread.

Much of the criticism centered on the exchange rate. Jo appeared with director Ryu Seung-wan — director of Humint — as a guest on MBC’s Son Seok-hee’s Questions on the 4th of last month.

The two recalled the \”12.3\” emergency decree incident that occurred during Humint’s overseas location shoot and said a spike in the exchange rate had driven up production costs.

After the recent rise in the exchange rate, right-wing online users appear to have singled him out and launched a coordinated barrage of abusive comments. Jo has not publicly responded.

Meanwhile, Jo is slated to return to theaters this summer in Na Hong-jin’s Hope.
