[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Kim Gun-woo, a member of boy group Alpha Drive One, issued an apology and announced he will pause activities after drawing criticism for inappropriate remarks.
On the 8th, agency Wake One released an official statement saying it should have done more to ensure its artist met basic standards of conduct and accepts full responsibility for failing to do so.
Kim was accused of making an inappropriate comment to a staff member while carrying out a schedule. Fans pressed for a quick explanation, but the agency’s public response did not come until months later.
The agency apologized for the delayed statement and said the incident occurred during a pre-debut content shoot. According to the statement, Kim did not realize his microphone was on and let out an inappropriate remark while expressing frustration. The agency said the comment was not directed at a specific individual and was not intended as a personal attack; it came out as a mutter.
The agency added that Kim apologized to the production team immediately after the incident, and that the matter was considered resolved through mutual communication. It emphasized that other allegations circulating online are not true. The statement said Kim is reflecting deeply and, after discussion, has decided to take time for self-reflection. He will not participate in upcoming promotions or the scheduled fan concert. For the time being, Alpha Drive One will continue activities as a seven-member group without Kim.
Kim also released a personal apology. On his official social media, he wrote, “I want to apologize again to everyone who was hurt by this incident.” He said the episode made him painfully aware of how foolish his behavior was and how much he still needs to grow.
He pledged to act with responsibility going forward, to reflect deeply so this does not happen again, and to take the time to reassess himself so he can return as a more mature person.
Alpha Drive One was formed through Mnet’s audition program “Boys 2 Planet” and debuted in January.
