On April 17, the YouTube channel From Today, Hwang Je-seong posted a video titled “Baekga hyung’s pronunciation has gotten worse — I can’t tell what he’s saying.” In the clip, Hwang Je-seong and Baekga cook a barbecue together and speak candidly.
After the meal, they moved indoors for tea. Hwang asked, “Have you ever been angry with the members?” Baekga replied plainly, “I once got mad at Shinji.”
He explained why: “We’ve been together for 23 years, so things had built up for me, too.” When Hwang asked if he meant being paid less, Baekga said, “No. I’m grateful for the money I receive.”
He outlined what he considers a fair split: “Shinji sings about 90% of the parts. If I took three shares, that would be too much. It should be Shinji 7, Jong-min 2, and Baekga 1.” He added, “That’s the fair arrangement, but Shinji has ceded a lot. That makes me feel even more loyal and thankful.”
Baekga also noted that Jong-min sometimes receives three shares. “Some might think he should take more than me, but Jong-min stepped back as well. I’m grateful to the members,” he said.
Hwang observed, “This is how a team endures — by understanding one another.” Baekga reiterated, “Shinji has really given up a lot. Jong-min and I are sincerely thankful.”
Koyote debuted in 1998 and remains one of South Korea’s best-known mixed-gender groups. Kim Jong-min joined in 2000 and Baekga in 2004; both continue to perform with the group.
Last year, they promoted the single “Call Me” and completed a nationwide tour.
Member Shinji is publicly dating singer Moon Won; the couple plans to marry on May 2 this year.
