On the 21st, he posted a collaboration video with a mattress brand to his YouTube channel. In the video, he said he donated beds and bedding worth roughly 20 million KRW (approximately 15,000 USD) to the Chungju Senior Welfare Center in North Chungcheong Province, and that the items will be distributed to elderly residents in need.
He was blunt about how his philanthropy is perceived. \”I work to make money, and donating is part of that process,\” he said. \”I don’t earn money just to donate. First and foremost, I earn to live well.\” He added that he wasn’t trying to project a \”donation angel\” image, though he acknowledged that such acts do improve his public image.
He drew a firm line under suggestions that the donations were intended to avoid taxes. \”That’s speculation,\” Kim said, arguing there would be no reason to buy unnecessary items just to donate them. \”I don’t consider myself a particularly good person,\” he added candidly. \”I really want to make money.\”
The video’s format also attracted attention. The roughly 20-minute clip mostly follows a \”sleep stream\” concept, filling much of its runtime with footage of him actually asleep, which viewers found amusing. When a brand representative said they had asked for a lying-down broadcast but didn’t expect it to turn out like this, viewers replied with witty comments.
The video surpassed 1.2 million views within half a day of its release, drawing strong interest. Comments ranged from \”You end up watching him sleep the whole way through\” to \”It’s strangely addictive.\”
Kim entered public service in 2016 as a Grade-9 civil servant, was promoted to Grade-6 in 2023, and resigned in February to pursue personal projects.
