[Herald Economy senior reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul’s Gangbuk District, led by District Mayor Lee Sun-hee, was selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ “2026 Small Manufacturers Complex Support Center Construction and Operation Project,” securing 2.5 billion KRW (approximately $1,875,000 USD) in national funding and 900 million KRW (approximately $675,000 USD) in city funding — a total of 3.4 billion KRW (approximately $2,550,000 USD).

With this award, national and city funds will now support the Gangbuk Fashion Platform construction project, which had been planned to be fully funded by the district. That eases the district’s financial burden and gives the project greater stability.

The Gangbuk Fashion Platform will be built with one basement level and five above-ground floors, totaling 1,201.87 square meters (about 12,939 sq ft). The planned site is on the Songjung Cultural Information Library lot at 6 Dobong-ro 20na-gil, located within the Mia-dong clothing and sewing (C14 industry) cluster.

The facility will provide one-stop support for fashion and sewing — from production to startups, education, and information services. It will include spaces for nurturing fashion startups, production training, and areas for information exchange and collaboration. The goal is to boost local small manufacturers’ competitiveness and become a core hub for sustainable growth in Gangbuk’s fashion and sewing sector.

Construction is set to begin this April, with a target completion date of November 2027. The district plans a one-month pilot operation in December 2027, followed by an official opening in January 2028.

District Mayor Lee Sun-hee said, “Securing national and city funds allows us to advance the Gangbuk Fashion Platform project more securely. We are committed to opening in 2028, strengthening the competitiveness of Gangbuk’s core manufacturing sectors — fashion and sewing — and reinforcing the local industrial ecosystem.”
