Fashion marketplace W Concept is teaming up with an internationally accredited testing and certification body to tighten quality checks for brands on its site.

W Concept announced on the 25th that it has signed an MOU with the KATRI Testing Research Institute (KATRI), an internationally accredited testing and certification organization, to build a testing and inspection system specifically for fashion products.

Founded in 1965, KATRI is a foundation under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy that performs safety inspections, testing, and certification across sectors including textiles, fashion, and consumer chemical goods.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will provide multi-faceted support to brands on the platform, including safety testing, certification, and test analysis. They also plan to extend collaboration to brand consulting and informational sessions.

The partnership is meant to create an external, accredited quality-check process that encourages brands to voluntarily verify their products. That should help ensure product disclosures—like fiber content—are accurate for shoppers.

In the first phase, about 200 brands have signed up to test roughly 3,000 items; W Concept will begin those inspections and plans to expand the program to include more brands and product categories.

W Concept also says it will proactively test key materials such as leather and linen ahead of fashion seasons to bolster quality control.

“This agreement will help prevent customer harm from mislabeled product information and build trust in the platform,” said Hong Seong-su, W Concept’s support manager.
