Shinsegae Tomboy Issues Refund for 13 Controversial Down Jackets: What You Need to Know

Fashion company Shinsegae Tomboy posted an apology signed by its CEO on its website on the 21st and said it will offer voluntary refunds for 13 down jacket styles sold under women’s brands VOV and G-CUT.

The recall affects nine VOV styles and four G-CUT styles produced for the 2024 winter season.

The company said the decision was made to take responsibility, tighten quality controls, and rebuild customer trust.

Shinsegae Tomboy recently conducted internal quality checks across all suppliers of down products. Those inspections found that one supplier, identified as Company A, had used duck down in place of the goose down stated for 13 items.

The investigation also revealed that Company A submitted falsified test reports for the down and relied on an unverified filling supplier.

After confirming the issue, Shinsegae Tomboy immediately halted sales of the affected items and begun recalling products already in distribution. The company said it will terminate its relationship with the supplier and pursue legal action.

CEO William Kim said the company will strengthen step-by-step quality verification throughout production, completely overhaul supplier management, and fundamentally improve its quality-control system to prevent a repeat. He offered a sincere apology to customers who were inconvenienced and to those who have supported VOV and G-CUT.
