Shim Jin-hwa opened up on YouTube about the luxury handbags her husband, Kim Won-hyo, gifted her — totaling about 100 million KRW (approximately 75,000 USD) — and candidly revisited their harder days.
On the 16th, appearing on the YouTube channel ‘Yujeong and Jujeong,’ Shim addressed the buzz surrounding the Chanel bag story.

She keeps a collection of flashy luxury pieces now, but her past looked very different. \”Before I got married, I was so poor that, even into my early 30s, I never owned a bag that cost more than 50,000 KRW (about 37.50 USD),\” Shim recalled, saying she couldn’t understand people who carried expensive bags back then.
Being honest, she admitted, \”Now that I’ve lived a bit, I like it.\” She added that she worked tirelessly—\”I did everything from delivering newspapers to whatever else was needed\”—and feels like she’s finally reaping the rewards of those efforts.
She showed deep affection for Kim Won-hyo, calling him like a lifesaver for standing by her during the toughest times.
Shim also laid bare the reality behind the rumor of \”sha-tech\” (buying Chanel as an investment). \”This is something I’ve never talked about before,\” she said. \”When we hit a financial rough patch, I took all the Chanel bags to sell, and they only fetched about half their original price.\”
She blamed her taste for the failed resale attempt. \”If you’re investing, you should buy classic styles—I’m drawn to the unique pieces,\” she said, prompting laughter.
